“Kumamoto Artpolis: Architecture through Communication” Exhibition

In this July and August, The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur together with Urban Design and Conservation Research Unit (UDCRU), Faculty of Built Environment UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA and Galeri Shah Alam is organising a new exhibition, entitled “Kumamoto Artpolis: Architecture through Communication”. It showcases 69 photo panels of 67 unique and creative buildings designed by different architects under the “Kumamoto Artpolis” program, which was initiated by local government. The architects were chosen by Arata ISOZAKI, Japan’s leading architect and the commissioner of this program. The Exhibition will be held at the Gallerium, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia from 20 July to 3 August 2006, and at Galeri Shah Alam from 11 August to 10 September 2006.

“Kumamoto Artpolis: Architecture through Communication” exhibition was launched as one of the traveling exhibition of the Japan Foundation in 2003. This exhibition set was made to introduce Japanese contemporary architecture through the buildings that are completed under this program as well as introducing the great concept and the big challenge of this program from the view point of regional planning and development.

Kumamoto Artpolis
The “Kumamoto Artpolis” program began in 1988 as an innovative attempt to develop new communities throughout Kumamoto prefecture, located on Kyushu island, southern-west part of Japan. Arata ISOZAKI, Japan’s leading architect, was appointed as the commissioner, and architects and designers recommended by the commissioner have worked with local residents to create various buildings such as public apartments, museums, community centers, bridges and so on. The goal is not simply to improve the quality of building design but to use architectural project to bring together architects and local residents so that they can consider how communities in which the project are to be built might be improved. Over 70 buildings were built under this program, and it’s still on today.


Kumamoto Prefecture
Kumamoto Prefecture is located in the center of Kyushu, the southernmost of the four major Japanese islands. It is bordered by the Ariake inland sea and the Amakusa archipelago to the west, Fukuoka Prefecture and Oita Prefecture to the north, Miyazaki Prefecture to the east, and Kagoshima Prefecture to the south.

Introduction:

The Graduate School of Information Science, Nagoya University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), is pleased to announce the first International Symposium on
Robotics and Intelligent Sensors (IRIS2010)
that will be held in Nagoya University, Japan from 8th to 11th of March 2010.


Aim and Scope:

IRIS2010 is intended to provide technical forum and discussion related with robotics and sensors. The symposium is
aimed to bring together students, researchers, scientists, engineers and practitioners to present their latest research findings, ideas, developments and applications related to the various aspects of developmental robots, robot applications, development of intelligent sensors and networks, sensor application in robotics, human sensing, human psychophysics and human-robot interaction. IRIS2010 will include keynote addresses by eminent scientists as well as special, regular and poster sessions.

Tak Gendong Kemana-mana, tak gendong kemana-mana… itulah sekelumit lirik dari syair “Tak Gendong” yang dilantunkan Mbah Surip (almarhum) yang sempat heboh tempo hari belakangan ini. Ya begitulah ungkapan yang tepat untuk mengilustrasikan kabar dari Jepang ini.

Hm, tampaknya tak ada habis-habisnya kabar menarik sekaligus inovatif yang berhembus dari negera maju yang memiliki teknologi tinggi ini. Bayangkan setiap saat akan ada saja kabar mengenai kehadiran robot dari perancang-perancang handal disana.

Baru-baru ini saja telah terbersit kabar tentang kehadiran robot beruang yang imut yang mampu mengangkat (menggendong) manusia. Pasalnya perusahaan pembuat robot RI-MAN telah mampu menciptakan sebuah robot yang mampu mengangkat dan mengangkat beban seberat ukuran manusia dewasa sekalipun. Dengan tampilan model yang terbaru ini, robot ini dirancang seperti seekor beruang yang imut yang tidak dilengkapi dengan gigi dan cakar yang khas . Meskipun berpenampilan seperti binatang beruang, namun robot ini mampu mengangkat beban dengan sangat lembut dan menyenangkan sehingga Anda tak perlu takut dan khawatir saat digendong.

Mengadopsi RIBA (Robot for Interactive Body Assistance), robot model terbaru ini memang dimaksudkan paling tidak menyerupai robot perawat yang mampu membantu manusia. Selain itu dilaporkan pula kalau robot ini mampu mengangkat pasien hingga 235 kg (bisa seukuran beban tempat tidur ataupun kursi roda). Dalam melakukan fungsinya, robot ini menggunakan sensor dan beberapa bahan khusus “soft skin” yang menjamin beban yang diangkat selama perjalanan akan merasa nyaman dan menyenangkan. Yuk..tak gendong yuk mbak !

Nissan telah menghadirkan "EFFIS" yang mereka kembangkan dengan dengan sesuai dengan perkembangan masyarakat urban di masa depan nanti. mobil konsep ini menggunakan salah satu teknologi paling canggih dan tampaknya nissan telah menciptakan kendaraan masa depan yang user friendly dan ramah lingkungan. kendaraan ini hadir dengan panel instrumen yang dapat disesuaikan yang menawarkan 3+1 tempat duduk dengan area yang lapang. instrumen yang dapat diputar ini juga menyediakan meja yang dapat diputar. jika ada dua orang di kursi depan area belakang difungsikan sebagai bagasi. jika mengangkut lebih banyak penumpang maka tinggal dorong saja instrumen panelnya ke dalam dan geser kursi depan penumpang dan angkat tempat duduk di belakang, nah maka tersedialah tempat duduk untuk 3 orang dewasa dan masih banyak ruang tersedia untuk yang lainya.

Setelah melewati beberapa pengujian dan penialaian dari para juri, akhirnya Audi A3 keluar sebagai Green Car Of The Year (GCOTY) 2010 versi sebuah media "Green Car journal". Pengumuman kemenangan Audi A3 itu bersamaan dengan acara Los Angeles Auto Show 2009 yang digelar selama 4 - 13 Desember 2009.

Meskipun bermesin diesel, tetapi mesin yang ditanamkan di hatchback ini merupakan mesin diesel yang ramah lingkungan dengan teknologi yang maju dan pastinya irit. Seperti diutarakan oleh Roy Cogan selaku perwakilan dari "Green Car Journal" dan GreenCar.com dalam press release-nya bahwa Audi A3 memiliki semua kriteria penilaian.

"Mobil mewah nan kompak ini memiliki fitur yang mengesankan EPA (sebuah lembaga lingkungan hidup di USA) dengan perkiraan 42 mpg di jalan raya, berarti bahan bakar yang dipergunakan lebih efisien 50 persen jika dibandingkan dengan mesin bensin standar A3," ujar Roy Cogan.

Mesin dari Audi A3 ini sendiri merupakan mesin 2.0 liter turbo direct injection (TDI) dengan standar S tronic dual-clutch bertransmisi otomatik.

Johan de Nysschen selaku presiden Audi Amerika menerima langsung penghargaan atas kendaraan 5 penumpang tersebut. Bagi Johan, hal ini merupakan suatu penghormatan bisa menunjukan Audi A3 TDI untuk menghadapi dan menjadi solusi terhadap isu transportasi yang saat ini sedang berkembang.
